Atascocita is in unincorporated Harris County and does not have its own distinct city government with a mayor and city council. The local governing authority for Atascocita is Harris County itself. The County Sheriff's Office is the primary law enforcement agency for the area, though the Precinct 4 Constable's Office does serve the area as well. Courthouse & DMV

For those who are new to the area, it's helpful to know that the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Driver License Office and the Harris County Courthouse Annex - Atascocita are located very near each other on Will Clayton Parkway. You can find them at the following addresses:

As you can see, these important facilities are just a short distance apart. At 7710 Will Clayton Parkway, the DPS Driver License Office is where new residents can obtain their Texas driver's licenses and identification cards, as well as handle vehicle registration and license plates. Just down the street at 7900 Will Clayton Parkway, the Harris County Courthouse Annex provides services for various county-level needs and may also assist with certain Department of Transportation (DOT) related inquiries. Having these essential services so close together offers significant convenience when settling into your new Atascocita home.

The BOE members are more clearly defined than the above districts. District 8 is primarily north of Atascocita Rd and east of Woodland Hills (making an inverted "V") which makes up most of Atascocita, while District 4 is southwest of District 8.
